António Augusto Martins Pereira designed the first Alba at his family's metalworking company in Albergaria-a-Velha in 1952, assisted by Francisco Corte-Real Pereira and factory craftspeople. Three lightweight aluminium-bodied competition cars were completed: an initial modified Fiat-based 1100, a Peugeot-engined second car and the 1500 with Portugal's first fully domestically conceived automobile engine. Albas entered 42 events, earning 25 podiums and ten victories. Production interest faded after the 1958 Vila Real race, although an Alba competed for the final time in 1961; two of the three cars survive.
