The French Ajax was developed by American automobile entrepreneurs Benjamin and Frank Briscoe and entered production at Neuilly in 1913. Its sole documented model was a lightweight 12 hp cyclecar using a 980 cc four-cylinder engine and friction drive, marketed at a comparatively low price. When the brothers returned to the United States they developed the closely related Argo, substituting a conventional transmission. French Ajax production continued through 1919; this identity is distinct from the several unrelated American and European marques that also used the Ajax name.
