Brothers Walter Simpson and Alfred L. Simpson formed the Ajax Motor Vehicle Company in New York City with $10,000 in capital and began manufacturing on West 36th Street in July 1901. Their Ajax Electric was a lightweight two-seat runabout built around a brazed tubular frame, a 24-volt motor and chain drive. Initially priced at $1,100 and later reduced to $850, the car was sold only in New York City. Ajax exhibited at the 1903 New York Auto Show but closed later that year, leaving the Electric Runabout as its sole documented model.
