AGA automobile production grew from the Berlin operation of Autogen-Gas-Akkumulator-AG, a German subsidiary of Sweden's Gasaccumulator company. The first Type A car appeared in 1919, and the vehicle business was reorganized as Aktiengesellschaft für Automobilbau in 1920. Its inexpensive four-cylinder cars found private, small-business and taxi customers, while licence production also took place at Thulin in Sweden. AGA joined the Stinnes trust in 1922, produced a small TF sports-car series for the 1924 Targa Florio, and entered financial difficulty after Hugo Stinnes's death. Bankruptcy followed in 1925; curtailed vehicle production continued until 1929, after an estimated 8,000–12,000 cars.
