Anton Schneider, Wenzel John and associates founded the enterprise in 1894, moving bicycle manufacture to a larger Horní Police factory in 1896. Under A. Schneider and W. John it added Achilles automobiles from 1906 through 1912 alongside motorcycles. The surviving reference record does not preserve dependable passenger-car type names or specifications, so the automobile output remains one explicitly bounded family. After the First World War the Czechoslovak concern concentrated on bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles, at times employing 2,400 people. Its owners were expropriated in 1946 and later established Achilles-Werke West in Germany.
