Founded as Coxeter & Sons at Abingdon, Berkshire, in 1903, the concern made motorcycles under the Abingdon badge before becoming Abingdon Ecco Ltd. and then Abingdon Works Ltd. and moving to Tyseley near Birmingham. Its only automobile was a bought-in-component touring car with a 1,496 cc side-valve Dorman four; twelve were assembled in 1922–1923. Car manufacture then ceased, while motorcycles continued through 1925 and under successor Abingdon King Dick as AKD until 1933. The qualifier avoids conflating this lineage with an earlier Abingdon automobile concern.
