A group of Moscow automotive enthusiasts established the A:Level design and tuning workshop around 1999. Its defining own-badge project was the Volga V12 Coupé, a commissioned one-off combining widened GAZ-21-inspired bodywork with the chassis, cabin and 5.6-litre V12 mechanical package of a BMW 850CSi. Completed around 2001–2002, it appeared internationally before the workshop acquired rights to the historic Russo-Baltique name. The later Impression was consequently presented under Russo-Baltique rather than A:Level and is cataloged with that marque.
